The Crossing

Mara River, Northern Serengeti, Tanzania
July 2014

We drove out before sunrise to this spot on The Mara River to wait for the crossing. It takes just one wildebeest to cross first. The rest will follow down the river bank, across the river and hope to make it out to the other side. There are Hippos and Alligators in the river waiting for one weak one or one young one. We saw over 250,000 on this crossing. Over 3 Million Wildebeest are in the Great Migration. The animals have a nervous excitement about them and it is extremely tense and extremely loud!
