Lady Lion

Chief's Island, Okavango Delta, Botswana
October 2012

We came across a pride of female lions right after they took down a large buffalo for themselves and a baby for their young. They eat their prey in a specific order and we were lucky enough to witness this right after they killed it. To be able to witness this raw and natural occurrence was truly beautiful. Lions feast on their prey for hours at a time and take turns to leave to walk to a watering hole to drink and clean themselves. They can't leave the prey unattended at any time as vultures are circling while they are eating just waiting for an opportunity. Other animals are waiting as well and the hyena will be the one who comes and gets the scraps and eats the bones. It truly is the circle of life!
